In ‘The July bioethics case studies how to resolve discrepancies in decision-making criteria between a patient with Down syndrome and her sisters regarding a tubal ligation procedure. The patient should be allowed to make the decision freely and voluntarily, without pressure from her sisters. However, if the patient is deemed incompetent, her involvement in the decision-making process is still crucial. Due to associated risks, such elective surgeries must be judicially decided in Spain. This case must be evaluated following the specific laws of each country.’
