Applying for a license to practice medicine in Israel

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is the body authorized by law to grant licenses to practice medicine in Israel. Details on the licensing process in Israel, registration for exams and /or verification of exemption as described below are all available on the Ministry of Health website.

Graduates of foreign medical schools are required to pass a licensing exam if they have completed internship, or an internship exam if they have not yet completed internship. These exams are administered by the Israeli Ministry of Health.

After applying on the Ministry of Health website for medical licensing, the MOH will determine which examination is required. The MOH can also decide to issue an exemption to those physicians who meet the criteria set by law.

Once registered for an exam, any matters relating to the exam itself (including special requests or appeals) can be submitted to the coordinator of the Internship/ Licensing Exams Committee in the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association or by calling 972-3-6100419.

Foreign specialists whose certification was obtained abroad, may submit applications simultaneously for recognition of their license to the Ministry of Health and recognition of their certification to the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association.
