The Israeli Medical Association (IMA) is the leading professional organization representing more than 90% of physicians across Israel. It encompasses doctors from all medical specialties, regions, and career stages - ranging from medical students and interns to specialists, practitioners, and retirees. The IMA operates independently and without political affiliation.
IMA Vision
The IMA seeks to promote the professional, scientific and economic affairs of its members, to maintain a suitable professional and ethical level in the medical profession, to strengthen public healthcare and to attend to the status of the physician and medicine in Israel. The IMA also works to establish partnerships, collaboration and exchanges between physicians and organizations in Israel and the world.
IMA President
The President of the IMA is elected every four years at the IMA General Assembly. The current president is Professor Zion Hagay, who has served as the president of the Israeli Medical Association since 2018.
Professor Hagay is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology the Hebrew University School of Medicine in Jerusalem, Director of Residency Education at Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot and Chair of the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee of the World Medical Association.
IMA CEO
The CEO of the Israeli Medical Association is Adv. Leah Wapner. In addition to her position at the IMA, Adv. Wapner serves as the Secretary General and Legal Advisor of the European Forum of Medical Associations and as Advisor to the Finance and Planning, Socio-Medical Affairs and Medical Ethics Committees at the World Medical Association.
