Human fetal kidney organoids model early human nephrogenesis and Notch-driven cell fate

The article describes the successful development of human fetal kidney organoids (hFKOs) generated directly from human fetal kidney (hFK) tissue. These organoids are grown directly from real fetal kidney tissue, and they turn out to look and behave very much like actual developing kidneys. They contain the same kinds of cells, form similar structures, and even follow the same stages of kidney development. Because they mimic a real human kidney so well, these organoids can help scientists study how kidneys normally form and what goes wrong in kidney diseases — using a system that is much easier and safer to work with than real human tissue.
