    Examining the relationship between maternal preeclampsia and autism spectrum disorder in childhood

    A study evaluated whether maternal preeclampsia is associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in offspring, using data from over 115,000 deliveries (2005–2017) in a large health‑care system. Although children of mothers with preeclampsia—especially in severe cases—had somewhat higher raw rates of ASD, after adjusting for confounders (including gestational age), the association was no longer statistically significant. The authors conclude that preeclampsia likely does not contribute independently to ASD risk.
