    May 2025: Statement on medical neutrality and safe passage of humanitarian aid

    The Israeli Medical Association (IMA) calls for the immediate and safe return of all our hostages, both living and dead, being held in captivity by the terrorist organization Hamas. 

    As we have stated since the beginning of the war, the IMA stands behind accepted ethical principles and the necessity of respecting established International Humanitarian Law (IHL); not using health facilities as military or terrorist quarters and not targeting health personnel facilities and vehicles unless these are being used as a base for terrorist activities.

    The IMA reiterates our call for the safe passage of humanitarian aid to be delivered to innocent civilians, ensuring that such aid is not misused or stolen from those who need it.

    We stand behind these and other ethical mandates, including providing health personnel the adequate conditions to treat all patients with humanity and in compliance with the ethical values of the medical profession.
