EFMA serves as a liaison body between the World Health Organization (WHO) and medical associations in various European countries. EFMA represents approximately 60 European medical organizations and 10 observer international medical organizations. Adv. Leah Wapner was elected as the Secretary-General of EFMA in April 2007 and the IMA is also represented in the EFMA Liaison Committee. In the past the IMA has assisted EFMA in revising its guidelines. The IMA prepared presentations on various topics including “Social Media”, “Professional Autonomy and Self-Regulation” and “Relationship between Physicians and the Pharmaceutical Industry” and has co-drafted several statements, including a statement on physician autonomy and a document on ensuring medical services during conflict.
The IMA hosted the 1999 and 2008 EFMA Forums in Tel Aviv.
The last EFMA Forum was held in Belgrade, Serbia in March 2014. To access presentations from the forum click here.
