Structure of the IMA
|
 
The Executive Board
Sets organizational policy.
Responsible for critical administrative and procedural decisions. Considers resolutions and
prepares recommendations for further action. Manages the affairs of the IMA.
 
The Scientific Council
Ensures high standards of medicine in Israel.
Establishes professional norms in medicine.
Formulates and oversees residency syllabi and requirements.
Prepares and administers certifying examinations and grants specialty certification.
Accredits hospital departments as suitable for training resident physicians.
Involved in furthering continuing education for doctors.
Recognizes new areas of medical specialization and establishes corresponding residency programs.
 
Quality Improvement Department
Drafts training programs for physicians.
Complies proposals for updating the health care package.
Researches information on matters related to quality improvement.
Organizes conferences for optimum exchange of information.
Develops clinical guidelines and protocols.
Prepares informed consent forms.
Establishes clinical registries and databases.
 
The Ethics Committee
Establishes ethical codes for the physician community.
Responds to ethics based complaints and queries from the general public.
Establishes guidelines on issues arising from daily medical practice such as medical
confidentiality, black market medicine, organ transplants, organ trade, end of life
decisions, etc.
 
The Professional Committee
Seeks to improve salary and employment conditions for Israeli physicians.
Provides services and activities which enhance the welfare of the individual
physician, including:
+Preparation courses for retirements.
+Legal and financial consultation.
+"Yahad" (Physician's Consumer Club).
 
World Fellowship International Department
Organizes physician exchange programs with other countries.
Assists in creating scientific contacts between medical professionals and institutions
in Israel with similar bodies abroad.
Obtains financial support for research projects.
