Aiding Immigrants

Up until the massive immigration of Jewish doctors from the former Soviet Union, a great deal of attention was given to the promotion and encouragement of Aliyah of Jewish physicians. The office provided information and training to physicians who expressed their interest in coming to Israel, whether for purposes of Aliyah or of coming to Israel for a pre determined period of work, in order to get acquainted with the Israeli health system, with intentions of making Aliyah in the future. A large number of members have approached the World Fellowship and were directed to the institutions which could serve them best and create beneficial relationships with Israeli doctors. The World Fellowship has maintained very close ties with the Ministry of Health and the General Health Maintenance Organization ( Kupat Cholim), in order to assist and facilitate the absorption of immigrants at their workplace.

Today, The World Fellowship assists young doctors or medical students from abroad, who desire to come for their internship or temporary work, to specialize or to study in Israeli medical schools. Similarly, during their stay in Israel, the World Fellowship promotes the creation of connections among them and the Israel Medical Association as well as the State of Israel. An important activity promoting the integration of immigrant physicians throughout many years, has been the awarding of loans. Obviously during the last years, with the increase of immigration of physicians from the former Soviet Union, the World Fellowship was not financially capable of supporting the new immigrants, and has therefore concentrated its efforts in providing information and guidance .
